so after a few weeks of my jeep sitting with no oil in her. I have bolted the pan back up and have received my new bypass spring. So tommorow she gets so oil and finally a start up. since she has been sitting for weeks with no oil is okay to just pour the oil in like normal, then start it. or is there a reccomended procedure now, to possibly prime it? let me know what you think. thanks. Kyle. The pump needs to be filled with Vaseline to 'prime' it or it can stay dry. We had to pull the filter on one rebuild we were using a drill and flathead screwdriver down the distributor shaft spinning the oil pump this way to 'prime'. It wouldn't pick up so we had to pour oil in from the filter opening to get it to catch. The owner didn't mention he had the pump open just to look at it so it was nice and clean and dry inside. You can also take off the coil wire and use the starter to prime it. Just watch the oil pressure gauge, when it comes up, you have it. |
