Home-Heim Joint Clutch Linkage Installation Problems?
Heim Joint Clutch Linkage Installation Problems?
|
Howdy, folks...I'm in the middle of installing the "Rod Links" (the ones with the spherical Heim joints on the ends of the push rods) CJ clutch linkage replacement kit on my 84 CJ7/T5 tranny and I'm having a problem. It appears the lower push rod (bellcrank to clutch fork) is about 2 inches too long. Anyone else experience this problem? Looks like the only thing I can do is cut the adjustment tube to remove the excess length, but I'm not sure if I will be able to remove enough to get enough clearance. sounds to me like the bellcrank is backwards.........try flipping it around, and that could solve your prob...... Thanks, that's one of the things I was thinking about, but the bell crank is installed the same way it was before I took it out. It also matches the FSM diagram. Hopefully that is it, I would think if there were installation problems, someone on this forum would have already experienced them. My Jeep is all-stock, so I'm kinda confused as to why I'm having this problem unless my bell crank is in backwards... Did you take the fork side end off the stock unit and screw it on to the new one? I tried that at first and it made the rod too long. So I just left it off so the threaded end of the new rod just sits in the fork. Ok, just reversed the bellcrank and confirmed I had it in the correct way the first time. bleoh, yes, that's exactly what I did. I did notice the instructions specifically said to not reuse any of the old linkage components, but didn't realize that included the adjustment end. So, you just have the threaded rod pushing into the clutch fork? What did you do to replace the ball-end of the adjuster rod? Edit: Ok, should've read the directions more closely, they specifically state: "Please note: On the lower pushrod, the supplied threaded rod recesses directly into the clutch fork. You should NOT use any of the original pieces of the stock linkage." I remembered the don't re-use part, just didn't remember it applying to the adjustment rod. Oops! |
