Home-Home Made Steering Wheel Puller?

Home Made Steering Wheel Puller?

Hey guys!
(&there's a hey to the girls)
Got the box with my regular but smaller steering wheel(s) in them.
One is a 10", the other 12", wasn't sure what would work best. Per just
about everyone's advice, the plan for the leg room problem is in play.

My buddy the A & P mechanic, can not only weld, but has three different ones:
Regular Oxy/Actlyn(?), a TIG, & a MIG....I'm pretty sure that's what he said.
I explained the solution you all provided, re, pull the seat, take a piece out of the wheel well, (dbl chk'g clearnces), then weld a patch on. Scheduled to take it to his hangar in St. George next week.

In the meantime, he suggested putting the small wheel on so the drive from Kanab isn't a lesson in cramping.

The Problem: No Steering Wheel Puller.

Since I am one of those gys who can't wait for a weekday, (and have to take advantage of the time my meds are peaking so I can move around w/out pain) I was wondering have any of you made one or figured a way to pull it w/out one? I see the threaded holes, and have a basic concept of how they work. . .But I've found that I save lots of time and do-overs if I ask you all 1st>

The few posts I found didn't look too possible, so I thought I'd throw it out here and see what comes back.

To GDoggg(?was that it?)
Yep got the KC's on but had to leave off some of the hardware as the bolt on the light wasn't long enough to go thru the rollbar. I was able to get just enuff to get a nut to bite, then just cranked on it untill the thread came thru.

Here you go... A piece of 2" angle iron, a 9/16 grade 8 nut welded to it, a 9/16 grade 8 bolt, and two 5/16-18 grade 8 bolts plus 5/16 nuts to hold those bolts captive.

Screw the 5/16 bolts into the wheel and tighten the 9/16 bolt against the shaft and it'll pull the wheel right off.

theres a simpler way, just get a piece if non bendable metal and drill the 3 holes with the proper spacing, larger than the threads of the bolts. (if you have a tap you can tap the middle one) if not, just use the plate with a nut under it. hold the nut from turning with an openended wrench, and use a rachet on the bolt head to crank in the center bolt.

Simple as drilling 3 holes and using a wrench...
Here's mine, a little fancy but works.

If your doing chiliman77 method, just use a piece of angle iron. It won't bend on you.
You can get angle iron at Lowes or Home depot.
