Home-body lift or shackle to gain 2 on CJ7

body lift or shackle to gain 2 on CJ7

I did a search for a thread to answer my question but didn't find one so sorry if this is a repeated thread.....

I have a 4" rough country suspension lift on my CJ7 and just put 35" tires on it. It clears fine on road but off road will be an issue. What is the better way from your experience to gain the extra 2 - 3" of clearance. I was going to go the 3" body lift route but found some posts saying no more than 2" or alot of issues will come into play. If shackles are the way to go which ones would you recomend. I also noticed the front of my CJ seems to be setting a little lower in the front. Is this normal and what could be done to correct this as well.

Thanks for all your input.
Hi there,

I'm by no means a suspension expert, but from my experiences with CJ's.. too tall of a shackle or body lift really does some strange/dangerous things to your steering geometry and your body roll. Here's a thread from the YJ forum, same kinda issue as CJ's:

Let me throw this idea out there for you if it's just more tire clearance you want.... trim your fenders.

Not hard too do with a saws-all.. can give you same great clearance, and, you're not messing with your steering and body balance. You can even buy some good aftermarket "flattie" fenders for your jeep if you dont want to DIY.

Just my $0.02
I wouldn't go more than 1/2" or so shackle lift. A 2" body lift alone should give you plenty of clearance. Many on here don't like body lifts, I however think it is an economical way to get a little more clearance, just as you need.
1" body lift and a 1/2" shackle lift. If you actually need more room after that (not because you're hitting sheetmetal, but because you actually need the extra flex room in order to get through the obstacles you're tackling) break out the sawz-all and change flares, otherwise install proper length bump stops.
4" Springs, 1" BL, and 1" Shackels on 35's.
Looks good, handles poor.

just my 0.02 but id say 1in shackles 1in body should be more than enough...I am not a fan of body lifts though...and too much shackle lift will mess with the drive train angles which can lead to breaking u joints, or perhaps something else...
I'm in the same boat, I've got 4" Superlift springs with 33s and want to go to 35s. Will just 1" shackles be enough to clear with stock flares? I'm not going to do anything right now; I'm gonna wait until the KM2's come out in 15s. Just trying to plan a little. And do the TJ flares give more clearance than CJs?
