General Car Care

Just need some opinons about the best (personally worked well for you)products to use for interior/exterior car cleaning...

I am new to this but have used a lot of money buying and trying a lot of products.

Here's what I like and the order of usage.......

Mothers soap.

Clay bar from anyone with it's spray lubricant when the surface feels rough.

Polish from Meguiars

Wax from NXT for a quick shine or 5 star Ultimate Paint Protector, topped with Meguiars yellow wax when I have time.

For plastics and vinyl, I use Meguiars quick wipes when in a hurry. If i have time I use Klasse Vinyl/plastic protectant because it doesn't feel greasy. Surface is dry but looks and feel better.

That's a bit of a vague question because there are SO MANY products out there, and SO MANY personal opinions on what's good/bad.

First, realize that it's not so much the specific products that you use, but the process and techniques that you use, that will have the biggest impact on your results. Just as one example, you could argue all day about whether brand X or brand Y car shampoo is better, but if you're using an old cotton rag and washing your car with a circular motion, you're going to induce swirls. So, if you haven't already, study up on good processes and techniques, then find products that work for you.

Which products to get, depends in large part on what level of results you're wanting to get, how much you want to spend, and whether you prefer to be able to buy them locally or if you want/are willing to mail order them. It also depends on what you're doing. For example, you can get some decent car shampoos, tire and wheel cleaners, waxes or sealants, tire dressings, etc., locally at Wal Mart or car parts places like Auto Zone. However, if you're looking to do machine polishing with a DA or rotary, it's hard if not impossible to get good polishes over the counter.

The following website helped me as a starting place. OCDetails use to be a regular poster on this board, though I haven't seen him post for awhile.

Here's a direct link to his product review page. Again, there are many products out there, but I found this to be a good place to start.

If you state more specifics, like what you're wanting to accomplish(i.e. you just want your daily drivers to look half decent vs. you want the perfect show car finish) it would make it easier to give specific advice.
that was definetly an intense answer, my bad on the vague question, just kinda wanting a good starting place, but either way that definetly answered it, so thanks man :)

No problem. If you have more specific qestions after you've done a little more research, don't hesitate to ask. People here love to talk detailing :)

Here's another site you might enjoy perusing if you haven't already been there...
