Home-headlamp haze question

headlamp haze question

I recently noticed headlamp haze on my 00 Tundra and tried to clean it off. I used a product called Bartender's Friend and used to a sponge to clean the headlamp. i washed it off and the lens looked crystal clear, like new. I let it dry and when I came back 20 minutes later it was back to hazy. Should I be using a better solvent to clean this off? Attacking it with a rougher pad? I know these are all temp. fixes but I heard people getting them clean for at least 6 months.. Thanks!

Just do a search on the word "headlight". Youll find numerous threads on clearing them via wetsanding and/or polishing them.

System One has some demo videos on how to do it too...

Just look through their videos toward the bottom of the list...
Megiuar's has a product called PlastX just for that. I haven't used but I've read it works wonders.
^ It works yes.. but with some elbow grease a la polisher.

I've used PlastX and it works quite well, but after seeing some of the demo videos on wet sanding before polishing, I'm going to try that on mine when the weather warms up to see if I can get mine even cleaner.
eddie926, I have used Meguiars and have had good results.
I would have to agree w/RningOnFumes it took some effort, but anything worth doing is never easy.
BTW I had a guy tell me he sprayed WD40 on his headlights to keep them clear.
If you decide to do the wetsanding can you post before and after pictures?
PowerBall Mini and some plastic polish.

Yes, I had good results with the PlastX, and I DID use some effort. 3 applications per headlight and probably spent at least 30 minutes per headlight polishing it out. Don't get me wrong, they look very good. As I said, I'm just curious after seeing some of the wet sanding demos if that would make any further improvement or if they're as good as they're gonna get. And, yes, if I do the wetsanding and it makes any difference I'll post a pic.
