I was just on the Pontiac web site, and something caught my eye.
Has Pontiac dropped the 'Montana' prefix from their Montana SV6 minivan for 2006? Is it now just Pontiac SV6?
They did something similar early on in the GMT200 program. In 1998, all Trans Sports became Montanas, as opposed to '97, when the Montana was an option package on the Trans Sport.

Had American Motors survived, theirs would be the cause we'd all be championing.

Yep, pretty much. GM changed the names of both minivans in the 2005 redesign, in an effort to shed the rather poor image of the Venture and Montanna. The new versions are much improved, better engines, nicer styling, and the interiors are incomparably better.

Yea GM did that with the S10/Blazer and Trailblazer too. When the S10 Blazer first came out it was the SUV version of the S10 pickup truck, hence the Blazer designation. They later dropped the "S10" prefix and made the Blazer its own model. Then they has a "Trailblazer" edition of the Blazer in the late 90's - which also went on to become its own vehicle, and actually replaced the ancient Blazer itself.
