Car and Truck of the year annouced

Uncommon value forms the common thread between the Chevrolet HHR and Ford Explorer, 2006 Detroit Free Press Car and Truck of the Year. That's virtually the only thing the two new vehicles share. The $15,425 HHR is a compact wagon with arresting looks and a four-cylinder engine. It's the best small car General Motors Corp. has ever developed in North America, and it's winning Chevrolet new buyers daily. The $26,530 Explorer is the latest edition of Ford's perennially best-selling midsize SUV. Ford played it safe with the Explorer's looks, but its fuel economy and power are up, while emissions and interior noise are down dramatically. Ford concentrated on fixing the old SUV's few shortcomings, and it succeeded handsomely. The HHR and Explorer also got my votes for North American Car and Truck of the Year. The winners of those awards will be announced Jan. 8 at in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show. 200)?200:this.scrollHeight); overflow: hidden;">
"SATURN the evolution of minimalism and customer service in every vehicle. Cause it isnt just about what we design, its about how we sell it as well."
Phew! Now go get some sleep. Phelan is with ya --------- I still can't see much to be impressed about with the HHR. Unless you're only interested in the look, it doesn't stand out in its interior space, ride/handling, refinement, power, features for the money, or fuel economy among other small hatch/wagons. Unless they're basing the award primarily on its significance to GM, I can't see where this is coming from at all. 200)?200:this.scrollHeight); overflow: hidden;"> IFCAR Homepage IFCAR Comparo: Economy Sedans IFCAR Comparo: Luxury Un-Sport Sedans IFCAR Comparo: Midsize Crew Cab Pickups IFCAR Comparo: Compact Hatchbacks and Wagons I am IFCAR and I approve this message. ---------
Can you justify all that?? I don't think so. Its a good looking vehicle (much better than the PT, IMO), Interior space is good considering the type of vehicle is is (compact wagon), ride and handling are above average, and it offers 2 excellent powertrains - the 2.2 145HP Ecotec and the 2.4 170HP Ecotec, both coupled to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto. What do you suggest thats better?? Its only competition is the PT, and the HHR is definitely a better overall vehicle. --------- A five year old (albeit updated) SUV and a PT Cruiser knock off? Yikes. That speaks, whether it's the magazines own ineptitude or Detroit's issues, you be the boss. ---------
