Honda and NASCAR? Honda, long-rumored to be interested in NASCAR Nextel Cup racing, is now trying to hire NASCAR engine builders for its Honda Racing Development operation, according to engine men familiar with the situation. It is unclear just what game plan that Honda might be considering. But NASCAR has provided Honda with Truck-racing templates, and Honda, since introducing its first big truck this season, the Ridgeline, has been widely expected to enter NASCAR Truck racing eventually

I ask GM and Ford to please make better cars so that Toyota and Honda would make even better cars for America. Quite frankly, Toyota and Honda are not even trying hard to compete with the domestics.

--------- Hey, if Toyota can get away with a pushrod V8 for their Nascar Tundras even though Toyota doesn't even offer a Pushrod V8 in their for-public-consumption models, I guess anything goes.
Honda can build a Ford/GM/Mopar Nascar clone V8 like Toyota did, and get qualified too.
..........
I know this is the truck topic, but Nascar has totally lost it's roots.
I sure miss true stock car racing.......in other words, race a facimile of the engine that you sell to the public in that particular model your racing; no tube chassis, with fake metal bodies with painted-on headlites.
If Nissan wants to enter their Titan......they run their 5.6 dual quad cam V8, Ford uses their mills, GM, and mopar likewise. Track speeds will be slower, but we'll actually be able to identify more with the product being raced. Toyota runs their 4.7 V8.
...........
I'm gradually giving up on Nascar, as all those trucks/cars are light-years from anything that I would buy as a consumer.
..........
Maybe Nascar could start a division that races diesel powered light trucks....We'd have a Cummins/Duramax/Powerstroke war, and that would be fun. It would really stimulate product identification with the consumer.
People are starting to "bomb" their diesels into monsters.

--------- to get back at honda, the big three need to start building lawn mower engines. seriously, does honda think that the "nascar dad" is going to turn into the "nascar soccer mom"? horrible idea. you want respect, or at least a little, do what nissan did and actually build a fullsize truck with some guts. maybe a little bit better drivetrain though.

--------- Honda doesn't build trucks. Well....real trucks.
--------- I agree with Eightballsidepocket. I think that NASCAR should go back to an old fashion style of racing using production-based engines in their trucks. Here's what I think they should do:
Ford: 5.4 L V8
Dodge: Hemi 5.7 L V8
Chevy: Vortech 6000 V8
Toyota: 4.7 L V8
Honda: 3.5 L V6
Of course, the engines could be modified up to 600 hp or so. That would make all of them pretty competitive and relatively truck-like, except for the Honda, which would have to rev to probably 12,000 rpm to make it. It would probably also peak at about 230 lb. ft of torque though, too and be front wheel drive since AWD isn't allowed in NASCAR.

Driving: A car with AWD and a boxer engine.
Wanting: A car with AWD, a boxer engine, and a turbocharger. Front or rear engine, please.
--------- I question Hondas actual commitment to building what they feel is a pickup and then sponser a racing team to represent them. I kind of get the feeling that the Ridgeline is not going to be around as long as other Honda Name plates have in the past.
