hi, i'm a new bmw owner as of two weeks ago. since then i have fallen totally in love with it. my only complaint is the excessively squeeky doors.
now i understand that the body flexes alot, but this seems a bit loud.
i stopped at a body shop and they recommended silicone. this didn't seem to do the trick effectively. they also tried a bit of gun oil on it, as he said the gun oil won't destroy the rubber.
i have cleaned the rubber and the channel it sits in, yet it still squeeks.
what would you guys recommend?
have you had similar problems?
it's a 1994 325i 115k miles
thanks, roofer
I usually just get some motor oil and squirt it in the areas between the door and body of the car. If you don't have a squirt can, then you can use a flat head screw driver and put the oil in those places. Just first listen to it a couple times and see where the squeaks are coming from, most likely it is coming from that general area. Just put oil in all those places.
You also may encounter your door sticking, or it being very hard to open. Just squirt oil in the locking mechanism. This is the one on the side of the door. Just push the lock in, squirt oil, then open the door, squirt more oil, excess is the key here. Just put enough there to get into all the nooks and cranies.
Hope this helps

Go buy some Gummyphlege and use it on your door seals. That's probally what's causing the squeeks. It's available at your local BMW dealership.
Where is your squeak coming from? I have the same problem w/ my passenger door. If I press on the top of the door when it's closed I can make it squeak. I sprayed some lithium grease on the latch(?) and it was gone for awhile and just came back. It gets annoying sometimes.

exactly, except i can press on any part of the door, and make it squeek.
when i find the right kind of oil that won't destroy thr rubber i'll let you know.
Gummyphlege is this expensive? my nearest dealer is 45 minutes from my home. is it worth having? or should i try the oil bit?
you need something that will get inside the hinges and attack any rust etc.. that may be causing the squeak, such as PB blaster or something like that, then follow that up with a good lubricant, Bentley manual suggests 30w motor oil .

Don't think it's $$$...I've had mine for the better part of 2 years and I use it monthly on all the seals. It was under $20 definately, maybe under $10. Oil+rubber is generally a bad combination - it'll usually make the rubber swell. Yes, I consider it part of my detailing/maintenance arsenal.

cool...next time i get near the dealership, i'll grab some, meanwhile i used oil...it seemed to work for now
