Can anyone tell me where I can get the best price on O2 sensors on a '96 M3? Is there a cheap substitute?

Also wondering if I need 2 sensors or 4.

You're going to need 4, 2 for each side of the exhuast system, 1 before and 1 after each catalytic converter.

Check with some of the supporting vendors here, but my recollection is that they go for about $110 each. The prevailing wisdom on replacing these is to just replace them as they fail rather than going in replacing them all at once because of the cost.

FYI, dealer list price is around $145 each. You can get discounted OE parts from our Supporting Vendors.

Your car has four oxygen sensors, but you only need to replace the one(s) that are malfunctioning. To identify exactly which sensors need replacing, read the engine fault codes. You can do this yourself with a Peake Research (http://www.peakeresearch.com/) code reader, or you can have a local shop read the codes for you.

I believe that thye are all the same. Call or email bimmerparts.com and they'll tell you.

I needed an O2 sensor for my 95 325is. I found a Bosch sensor at Autozone for $89.00. That is the cheapest price I have seen literally anywhere, internet or dealer.

Thanks for the price tip. I'll have to remember that when I need an O2 sensor - especially since there's an AutoZone right around the corner from my house.

try looking up bmwpartstore.com. got a new bosche one for my 95 m3 for $90 shipped.

edit, just checked out the site and they're a lot more, about $140. sorry...
