I have a 92 325i with high miles. I live in the southeast. I'm planning to change my oil today and I need to know what is the best OIL and OIL FILTER for my car??. Thanks :buttrock

Four bumps in less than an hour? Wow. You must be itching to change that oil! :)

Buy the filter from your local BMW dealer; make sure it comes with the appropriate rubber O-rings.

Consult your owner's manual, the Bentley repair manual, or your mechanic for an oil brand/weight recommendation. On this board, you can ask a hundred people and they'll each have a different favorite brand and weight of oil.

Or you can do a search and find millions of oil/oil filter threads.

Bump what weight for southeast area? I see a lot of people do use mobil 1 but what weight would any of you recommend for me?

True, true. I just did mine, mahle filter, mobil 1 5w30. I'd think 5w30 would work for you too, but I'm not a mechanic. :D

The other thing about the oil and filter is that if you buy them from the local dealer, most will give you a discount for BMW CCA membership. Mine gives me 15% off.

You can also buy the filters from some of the supporting vendors here, like bimmerparts.com or bimmerzone.com.

when i did my change i used a bosch filter, and the best oil u can get if your going to be haulin (which i do) is mobil 1 synthetic 15w30, its heavy and you have to change more frequent but its well worth it.

thanks guys for the feedback. I'm not sure which oil i will use yet 5w-30 or 15-w30. But i will figure it out. I went to autozone yesterday and didn't see Mahle filters but i did see bosch.

You won't find bmw filters at most auto parts stores. Get one from the dealership. You pretty much can't go wrong with Mobil 1 5w-30, 10w30, 0w-40, or 15w-50. The mention of 15w-30 is a typo. If your engine cosumes a bit of oil you should probably use one of the higher weights.

Mahle Filters and Mobil 1 is the most common combo that people use. 5-30 weight is pretty standard.
You can get the filters from us and Mobil 1 from Walmart or major stores.
