Need help removing the belt tensioner covers....!

I am all ready to change out the drive and ac belts. I can't seem to budge the fan nut, so I removed the airbox and was going to do it from the side. Ok, no problems so far.

Now, I try to get the tensioner cover off the pulley and it is either hard plastic or metal and I can't get any leverage or grab the edge of it to get it off. I am freaking mad. So, I hope some one on here today can help me so I can move on to some fun maintenance.... TIA. :)

I used an awl(small pointy thing) to pry it off. You can try a flat screwdriver also. A short one will work better if you can get real close to it. Oh, and they're plastic.

I used a screwdriver, but I couldn't even get the edge of the screwdriver blade between the cover and the pulley edge.

After doing this, is the cover reusable? I will borrow an awl from work....

As long as you don't break off any of the "teeth" of the cover, you can reuse it. Replacement covers are fairly cheap (less than $2 U.S.) at the BMW dealer.

I used the flathead screwdriver attachment on my Swiss Army knife. When it's extended at a 90 degree angle to the knife handle, it works pretty well.

I will find a sharp screwdriver to get the damn thing off....

Another question - Did you guys jack up the car to get to the A/C tensioner cover off from underneath? It is pretty far down and without the fan off, I am not sure if I will be able to get to it....I wish Bentley's was more indepth with the instructions...

It's easier to get to the A/C tensioner from under the car.

That's the last one left for me to change and everytime I'm under the car it I can see how easy it would be to remove it from there.

The first time removing/replacing the belts is a PITA, after that it's a breeze.

I figured the damn thing out.

I thought the cap was near the edge of the pulley, but where that little dip is on the end, that is where you need to pry off the cover. I noticed this when I did the A/C one first - it had some notches around the cap and the accessory cap was filled with crap so I couldn't see the notches... They popped right off...!
