I can lock/unlock the passenger door of my 98 M3 coupe with the key (or finger), and when I do, it activates the central locking system. However, if I use the console button or the central locking systmer from the driver side or trunk, the passenger door does not respond. What is this--a bad actuator? I'd like to DIY, but I'm a little scared of messing around the side bags--is it safe to open up the panel?

most likely the actuator, I just had the same symptoms on 2 of my locks and had them replaced (just barely under CPO). I'm not sure how difficult this is though, do a search for actuator on the boards.
