Hi guys
Im probably gonna get my selves an 96 M3 Euro ( 321 Hp) this evening, and would like to change the steering wheel from the huge truck like thing it has to the E46 M3 ( CSL) without multifunction steering wheel.
Anyone know if this is possible without any changes?
i know people have tried to
but i'm not sure if anyone has been successfull
yet
maybe alan taur?
The M3 CSL steering wheel airbag is likely a "smart" dual-stage unit, whereas most E36 airbags are single-stage units. There are a few threads on this forum on this topic. You'll have to figure out which stage of the CSL airbag to connect to the car, and even then, you won't be sure if the airbag will inflate in a collision.
i personally could care less about the airbag
as they could you hurt you as well or burn you
my concern is that the e36 slip ring mounts
to the steering wheel
and the e46 slip ring mounts to the steering column
i know the e46 slip ring has to be dremelled
pretty severely for the horn to work

Flash, the 3-spoke steering wheel that came standard on 1999 U.S.-spec M3s is smaller than the 4-spoke model. I don't think there would be any airbag issues. Have you considered that one?
